As stated in the last Asics feature, this year marks the 25th anniversary for the Asics Gel Lyte III.  Each month this year, one retailer or brand has left their mark upon the shoe by designing it ‘their way’.  September sees the turn of the infamous London trainer retailer, Footpatrol.

The design theme is centralised by Footpatrol’s iconic OG gas mask.  The symbol of conflict and struggle for Britain during WWII but also a reminder of how the people and country united as one when it was needed most.  Footpatrol now commemorates the unity of those times by designing the GEL LYTE III ‘SQUAD’ to continue in remembrance of those ideals.

The silhouettes feature a rich olive colour-way alongside striking, gold inner stripe trims and black suede outer accents.  The sneaker uses perforated pigskin for its uppers with a reflective gold embos above the heel cap, featuring the letters ‘FP’ and just above the heel counter the name, ’Footpatrol’.  Alongside a rough, suede tongue and a soft, sand coloured leather lining.  The detail which caught my eye, is the name ‘Footpatrol GEL-LYTE III’ spelled out in Morse code through the laces and the ‘FP SQUAD’ embroidered logo that carries the message ’11 Members, 1 Squad Leader’ can be located on the inside of the split-tongue.  All of these subtle details stand upon the triple-density sole, minimal but effective Gel cushioning for comfort and stability that has made Gel Lyte III a champion within the trainer industry.

For any ‘long standing’ British patriot these are the definitive shoe for you.

The Footpatrol GEL-LYTE III Squad will be available from 29th August 2015 in-store at Footpatrol and ASICS Tiger premium retailers globally. The shoes will retail for RRP £120 and will be released online at 8:00AM.
